There are over 15 superb golf courses within an easy drive of Cyder Mill and Stables, in fact the celebrated Celtic Manor resort, home of the Ryder Cup in 2010 Is only 15 minutes away. You can also visit St Pierre and the historic Rolls of Monmouth.
We have safe, dry storage for your clubs and bags, so all you need to worry about is how to play as many courses as possible during your stay!

Walking

There simply are too many wonderful places to walk in this area to tell you about in these pages. There is no need to drive at all once you are here as you can just don your walking boots, hoist your rucksack, close the door and set off.

There are all kinds of walks, from an hour to full day hikes, to suit all abilities, in absolutely stunning scenery:

From quiet country lanes to world class mountain bike trails, there are hundreds of miles of cycleways to explore.

Gliding

If exhilaration is your bag and you're not afraid of heights then perhaps you'd like to try your hand at gliding.

If you fancy soaring above the Usk valley, seeing if you can spot Clearvewe among the dotted farmhouses, then a visit just down the road to the South Wales Gliding Club will tell you all you need to know.

Gardens

Visit Usk’s prize-winning open gardens in  June which have won Britain in Bloom three times and have represented Britain twice at the European Entente Florale. Historic gardens include Usk Castle, Tretower Court, Crickhowell, Dingestow Court and The Nelson Garden, Monmouth.

Fishing

The River Usk is said by many expert fishing enthusiasts to be the best river for fly fishing within two and a half hours drive from London. It is also credited as 'Wales' premier salmon river'. The River Usk is beautiful, peaceful and the fly fishing is such that the world famous fly casting champion Lionel Sweet chose to set up Sweet's Tackle Shop in Usk. Brown Trout Permits are available from the shop.

Roman Remains

Caerleon Roman Remains and Legionary Museum
Excavated finds from the Roman fort, barracks, baths, an amphitheatre and the surrounding areas including Usk are held in the Museum which is just 7 miles from Usk. For more information see

Big Pit

Approximately 13 miles from Usk is Big Pit, the only coal mine in Wales where you can explore the underground workings with experienced miners as guides. There is disabled access to all areas including underground tours with prior notice. See http://www.nmgw.ac.uk/bigpit/ for further information

Hang-gliding and the Llandegfedd Reservoir
There is a hang-gliding club near Abergavenny. Llandegfedd Resevoir is well-known for its still water fishing, and is situated within woodlands and hills. There are picnic areas, children's play areas, wind-surfing, sailing, diving, canoeing and excellent walks.

Cardiff Bay has many attractions including Techniquest.

Castles
